Privacy Policy

Effective Date: February 2, 2026
Last Updated: February 2026

1. Overview

Mac Remote Controller is a utility application that allows users to control their Mac computer using an Android device. The app operates over a local Wi-Fi network and requires the companion software "Mac Remote Controller Desktop" installed on the user's Mac computer.

Mac Remote Controller ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, Mac companion application, and website.

2. Data Collection

We respect your privacy. Mac Remote Controller does not require an account, and the core local-network remote control features work without you providing personal information.

  • No account or login is required - The app works entirely offline on your local network
  • No user content is uploaded by core features - Remote control operates within your local environment
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, or files for the core remote-control functionality

2.1 Android App: SDK Data (Firebase / AdMob)

The Android app uses third-party SDKs (such as Google Firebase and Google Mobile Ads / AdMob). These SDKs may automatically collect and process certain data types, including identifiers that Google Play may classify as “Device or other IDs”.

  • Device or other IDs: e.g., Advertising ID and/or Firebase installation/app instance identifiers
  • App activity / interactions: analytics events about how the app is used
  • App info and performance: crash logs and diagnostics (e.g., via Crashlytics)

This data is used to provide analytics, diagnose crashes, and (where applicable) serve ads. These services may process data on our behalf, and in some cases data is shared with Google as part of providing these services.

  • Firebase Analytics (Google)
  • Firebase Crashlytics (Google)
  • Google Mobile Ads (AdMob)

You can manage ad personalization and identifiers through your Android device settings (for example, resetting or limiting the Advertising ID) and through your Google account ad settings. You can also uninstall the app at any time.

2.2 Mac Desktop Download: Optional Registration

You can download the Mac Remote Controller Desktop app without registering. If you choose to register to join our user base, we collect your email address and associate it with basic download metadata.

  • Email address (only if you choose to register)
  • Downloaded file/version (e.g., filename/version)
  • Download count and timestamps (created/last download time)

We use registered emails to build our user base and to share product updates, including announcements about advantages and special features. We do not sell your email address. You can request deletion of your email record by contacting us at the email address in the Contact Us section.

2.3 Website Analytics

Our website uses analytics services to understand how visitors interact with our website. These services collect anonymous usage statistics only after you grant consent via our cookie consent banner.

Necessary Analytics (Umami): We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service that collects minimal, anonymized data. Umami does not use cookies and respects Do Not Track headers. The data collected includes:

  • Page views (anonymized)
  • Download events (to track successful and blocked download attempts)
  • General device and browser information

Optional Analytics (Firebase Analytics and Microsoft Clarity): When you choose "Allow All" in our cookie consent banner, we also use:

  • Firebase Analytics (Google): Collects page views, navigation patterns, download button clicks, general location data (country/region level, not precise location), and device type and browser information.
  • Microsoft Clarity: A behavioral analytics tool that provides session recordings, heatmaps, and insights into how users interact with our website. Clarity collects anonymized data including mouse movements, clicks, scroll depth, and page interactions to help us understand user behavior and improve website usability.

You can control analytics loading through our consent banner. If you choose “Only Necessary”, we only load Umami; if you choose “Allow All”, we also load Firebase Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.

2.4 Cookie Consent

We use a cookie consent system that allows you to choose between:

  • Only Necessary: Only Umami Analytics (privacy-focused, minimal data collection)
  • Allow All: Umami Analytics, Firebase Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity

Your consent preference is stored locally in your browser and is respected on all pages. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting our website.

2.5 Local Network Communication

The Mac Remote Controller app’s remote-control traffic operates over your local network. Communication for controlling your Mac occurs directly between your Android device and your Mac on your local network. Separately, the Android app may send analytics/ads/crash data to third-party providers as described in Section 2.1.

2.6 Device Information

The application may access device information necessary for establishing local network connections, such as IP addresses and network identifiers. This information is used solely for the purpose of establishing connections between your devices and is not stored or transmitted outside your local network.

3. Permissions

To function correctly, the Mac Remote Controller app may request access to:

  • Wi-Fi / Network Access: Used solely to discover and connect to the server application on your Mac over your local network

These permissions are used only for local communication between your Android device and Mac computer. No local-control traffic is sent to our servers. Depending on the features you use, the Android app may also include optional components such as analytics/ads SDKs (see Section 2.1).

4. How We Use Your Information

Any information collected is used solely to:

  • Email Addresses (optional): If you register to join our user base, we store your email and associate it with Mac desktop download metadata
  • User base communications: If you register, we may contact you with product updates, including announcements about advantages and special features
  • Application Data: Establish and maintain connections between your Android device and Mac, and enable remote control functionality
  • Analytics / Ads SDK Data (Android app): Improve performance and reliability, measure usage, and (where applicable) serve ads
  • Website Analytics Data: Improve our website and understand website usage patterns
  • Device Information: Enable local network communication and improve app functionality

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

5. Data Storage

Application Data: Core remote-control preferences/settings remain on your devices. We do not operate an account system for the mobile or Mac apps. Separately, third-party SDKs in the Android app (if enabled/used) may collect and store analytics/ads/crash data as described in Section 2.1.

Mac Download Email Data (Optional): If you register to join our user base when downloading the Mac desktop app, we store your email securely on our backend servers hosted on Railway along with download metadata (filename/version, download count, timestamps). This data is encrypted in transit. You can request deletion of your email data at any time by contacting us.

Website Analytics Data: Website analytics data is stored by the respective analytics providers (Umami, Google Firebase Analytics, and Microsoft Clarity) in accordance with their privacy policies.

Android SDK Data: Analytics/ads/crash data collected by third-party SDKs (Firebase/AdMob/Crashlytics) is stored and processed by those providers in accordance with their privacy policies.

6. Third-Party Services

Our website, Android app, and download system may use the following third-party services:

We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third-party services.

7. Data Security

Core remote-control communication happens over your local network. For our website and backend services, we use standard security measures and encrypt data in transit (HTTPS) where applicable.

8. Children's Privacy

Our application is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not register (join our user base) or provide an email address on our website.

You have the right to:

  • Use the mobile and Mac applications without providing personal information
  • Control all data stored locally on your devices
  • Control cookie and analytics consent via our consent banner
  • Opt out of website analytics using our consent banner
  • Manage Android ad personalization/identifiers through your device settings (where applicable)
  • Request deletion of your Mac download email data by contacting us

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and post the updated policy on this page. You are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
